4-2-3-1 v Reading: Perez & Jeff start – My Arsenal starting XI

Arsenal will be looking to book our place in the next round of the League Cup when we take on Reading at the Emirates on Tuesday night. This is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go with….

Goalkeeper: Martinez

Cech will get a breather for this game and Martinez is likely to come in between the sticks just as he did against Nottingham Forest in the last round.

Defence: Jenkinson, Holding, Gabriel, Gibbs

The boss revealed the majority of his side earlier today and confirmed that Jenkinson is set to make his long-awaited comeback for the first team after recovering from a serious knee injury.

Gibbs will captain the side at left-back while Wenger has also confirmed that Gabriel and Holding will start in defence meaning that Monreal, Koscielny, Mustafi and Bellerin will all be rested.

Midfield: Elneny, The Ox

Xhaka serves the second of his three-game ban, Ramsey is still not ready to come back in to the squad despite returning to full training while Cazorla has been ruled out with an achilles injury so we don’t have too many options in midfield.

Elneny is certain to start while the boss has confirmed that Oxlade-Chamberlain will get a run-out and given the other players Wenger has already named, it looks like The Ox could be deployed in a central midfield role tomorrow.

Attack: Jeff [Reine-Adelaide], Iwobi, Perez

The boss says that Reine-Adelaide will get a chance to impress against Reading and he’ll be joined in attack by Iwobi – despite the youngster starting against Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Arsene has also revealed that Perez will make a rare start and he’ll be looking to get himself on the score-sheet after bagging a brace in the previous round. Sanchez, Ozil and Walcott will all be rested.

Striker: Giroud

The boss confirmed earlier today in his team news update that Giroud will be back in the squad tomorrow so it looks as though the French international will make his first start of the season after finally overcoming a niggling toe injury.

This would be my line-up to face Reading:

Despite making a number of changes, we’re still able to field a solid side so hopefully it’ll have enough to see-off Reading and book our place in the next round of the League Cup.
