Arsenal looking to beat Chelsea to signing of 17-goal French forward
According to ESPN, Arsenal are hoping to beat the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool to the signing of Fulham striker Moussa Dembele.
The French under-20 international has become one of the hottest young properties in England after turning down a contract extension at Fulham and is now a free agent this summer.
The 19-year-old came close to joining Tottenham during the January transfer window but he got a lucky escape as that deal fell through at the last minute leaving him to see-out the final few months of his deal at Craven Cottage.
Dembele went on to score 17 goals in all competitions for Championship side Fulham last season and his potential has led to interest from some of Europe’s most powerful clubs.
ESPN claim that sources close to the player have informed them that Arsenal have now joined the chase and are set to battle it out with Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Juventus, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce for his signature.
Arsene Wenger is looking to shake-up his attacking options this summer and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy has been identified as a replacement for the injured Danny Welbeck – who’s been ruled out for nine months with a knee injury.
However, with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain tipped to leave over the coming weeks, it looks like the boss has set his sights on Dembele as a potential new recruit to come in to our new-look attack for next season.
The teenager looks to be a real talent and while he’s predominantly played as a central striker at Fulham, he is capable of playing out on the wing so he’d probably be seen as more of a replacement for Walcott than the Ox.

Obviously there is stiff competition for his signature as he’s available on a free transfer – although Fulham would be due compensation for his development – but Arsenal should be confident of winning the race.
