Arsenal star’s future in doubt after storming out of Emirates
Some concerning reports are circulating today with the Telegraph claiming that Alexis Sanchez’s future is in serious doubt after he stormed out of the Emirates after being substituted against Norwich last weekend.
Sanchez has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks and he made no secret of his displeasure at being replaced in the 84th minute during our 1-0 win over the Canaries last Saturday evening.
The Chilean walked off the pitch and headed straight down the tunnel without acknowledging boss Arsnee Wenger or anyone on the bench and the Telegraph claim Alexis then stormed out of the stadium.
The newspaper says the incident was a culmination of weeks of tension surrounding Sanchez who they say has become increasingly frustrated with life under Wenger at Arsenal.
Arsene played down the incident after the game by saying it was a statement of Sanchez’s desire to play but the Telegraph suggest that privately, the boss was left distinctly unimpressed and the atmosphere between the two is understood to have been ‘frosty’ in training this week.
This report comes just days after Spanish outlet Don Balon claimed that Sanchez has made it clear he will look to leave Arsenal this summer if Wenger remains in charge with his agent already sounding out potential buyers.
Alexis has just two years remaining on his contract and Arsenal had hoped to tie his down to an extension this summer but if these reports are accurate, then I think it’s safe to say the attacker is unlikely to sign any new deal.
If that’s the case, then we may be forced to cash-in this summer as his value will drop significantly if he’s allowed to run his contract down to it’s final 12 months, plus Wenger won’t want to keep hold of an unhappy player.
However, let’s not jump the gun as we don’t know how much truth there is behind all these reports.
Sanchez has never hidden his frustration at being substituted in the past and he’s previously admitted that he’s argues with Arsene over how quickly he’s allowed to return from injury, such is his desire to play every minute of every game.
So let’s hope this is just another example of him throwing his toys out the pram because he didn’t want to be substituted. It’s also understandable that Alexis will be feeling frustrated as he’s struggled to find his very best form in recent months due to a number of niggling injuries.
Fingers crossed this all blows over quickly but if there is a rift between Sanchez and Wenger, it needs to be resolved before the end of the season as the last thing we want is Alexis heading off for the summer unhappy with his manager.
