Injury Update: Oxlade-Chamberlain could miss the rest of the season
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal fear Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could miss the rest of the season after suffering a double injury blow against Barcelona on Tuesday night.
The Ox suffered the injuries shortly before half-time when the midfielder was leading a promising break away but a heavy touch led to The Ox colliding with Javier Mascherano.
After receiving treatment, he tried to run the injuries off and even appeared after the half time interval but Oxlade-Chamberlain was eventually replaced by Theo Walcott in the 50th minute.
The 22-year-old left the Emirates on crutches with his right leg heavily strapped and was assessed on Wednesday. He’ll undergo further tests today but the Daily Mail claims that he’s suffered knee ligament damage as well as an ankle injury.
No official time-frame has been put on his recovery as yet and we should learn more later today but the paper suggests that Arsenal fear Oxlade-Chamberlain could now miss the rest of the season.
We’ll have to wait for more news but it would be a devastating blow for Arsenal and the player if those fears are realised as he’d not only miss our title run-in but he’d be facing a race against time to be fit for Euro 2016.
Chamberlain has endured another frustrating season but it looked as though Wenger was finally ready to give him a run in the first team and it would have been a huge confidence boost to be selected to start against Barca.
Let’s hope this latest injury isn’t as serious as the newspapers are suggesting but Oxlade-Chamberlain is certain to miss Sunday’s trip to Manchester United so Wenger will have to decide between Danny Welbeck, Joel Campbell and Theo Walcott for the right-wing role this weekend.
