Arsenal eye move to sign PSG defender Willian Pacho

Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on Paris Saint-Germain defender Willian Pacho, as per Caught Offside.

After being impressed by the 24-year-old’s performances for German side Eintracht Frankfurt, Les Parisiens decided to purchase him a couple of years ago.

The Ecuadorian has enjoyed great success at Parc des Princes, winning two Ligue 1 titles, as many Champions League trophies and several other major cup competitions.

In 43 appearances across all competitions, Pacho made three goal contributions and kept 13 clean sheets last campaign. Having proven his worth in club football, the defender has secured his place in the Ecuador national team’s starting line-up.

Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal see Pacho as a high-level left-footed defensive option and have compiled detailed scouting reports on the South American.

They even sent scouts to watch him closely during PSG’s 2-2 draw against LOSC Lille last month. However, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in him, as Manchester City have also been monitoring his development closely.

Moreover, the report state that Liverpool and Real Madrid have monitored his development previously but haven’t made a formal approach to secure his services.

Pacho to Arsenal

However, having recently tied Pacho, valued at around £69m by Transfermarkt, down to a fresh term, Les Parisiens aren’t in any rush to sell him in January or next summer.

Pacho is a 6ft 2in tall left-footed centre-back but can provide cover in the left-back position if needed. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

The PSG star is a top-class defender and has proven his worth at the highest level in recent years. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.

Mikel Arteta currently has Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié as options to deploy on the left side of the defence. But Calafiori and Hincapié mainly feature as left-backs. So, signing a new defender to support Gabriel might not be a bad decision.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Pacho’s services in January or next summer.
