Arsenal plot audacious swoop to sign Dani Olmo

By on April 8, 2026

Arsenal are plotting an audacious swoop to sign Barcelona’s attacking midfielder Dani Olmo next summer, according to Fichajes.

Arsenal strengthened key areas of their squad last summer, with Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze arriving to enhance Mikel Arteta’s attacking options.

The North London side currently sit top of the Premier League with 70 points from 31 matches, holding a nine-point lead over Manchester City, who still have a game in hand.

While much of the spotlight has been on their defensive solidity, Arteta’s attacking unit has also been outstanding, having scored 61 goals after 30 league matches, the highest tally in the division.

With ambitions of sustaining their dominance beyond this season, plans are already underway for further reinforcements, with Dani Olmo now emerging as a target.

Olmo has been a consistently influential performer for Barcelona since joining from RB Leipzig in 2023, and his importance under Hansi Flick has grown steadily, with the Spain international registering 16 goal contributions in 39 appearances across all competitions this season.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal are plotting an audacious swoop for the 27-year-old’s transfer to the Emirates Stadium next summer.

The report adds that the Gunners’ boss, Arteta, wants to add creativity to his attack and has identified the Spaniard as the ideal option to serve as the link between defence and attack, while also forming a formidable midfield partnership with Martin Zubimendi.

Ødegaard’s replacement?

Amid uncertainty over Martin Ødegaard’s future, the club’s directors want the Spaniard to replace their captain and plan to capitalise on his lack of regular playing time to make an offer, Fichajes adds.

While Olmo has expressed his desire to remain at Camp Nou, especially given his contract running until 2030, the Spanish outlet reports that an offer from Arsenal in the region of £52m could open the door to negotiations over his transfer.

Arsenal’s ambitions of securing a treble were brought to an abrupt end on Saturday night, as they suffered a shock exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Southampton.

The setback at St Mary’s Stadium came after their EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester City before the international break, leaving the Premier League and UEFA Champions League as their only remaining chances of silverware this season.

However, Mikel Arteta must also contend with an increasing list of injuries as he looks to guide his side towards ending their six-year wait for a major trophy.
