Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Frankfurt’s Brown
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown, as per a recent German report.
After finishing second in the last three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners splashed big money last summer to bolster the squad and finally become the English champions.
The North London club haven’t won the title since 2004, when they became the invincibles, and have a glorious opportunity to end their Premier League title drought this term.
Meaning, Arsenal’s summer investment is seemingly paying off. Mikel Arteta’s side are currently at the top of the table with a nine-point lead from second-placed Manchester City, having played an extra game.
Moreover, Arsenal have reached the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and the FA Cup, meaning they still have a chance to win the treble this season, a feat achieved by only two English clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Meanwhile, clubs usually start their planning for the summer in the March international break, and Arsenal have started exploring options to add more firepower to continue the momentum next season.
While citing and translating the print version of SportBILD, Sport Witness report that Arsenal are ‘keen’ on signing a new left-back and have earmarked Brown as a serious option.
Brown to Arsenal
The North London club have been monitoring his development closely before making a potential swoop, with the player expected to leave this summer.
However, the report state that Arsenal will have to overcome fierce competition to finalise the operation as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City are also in this race.
With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Frankfurt are in a strong position to demand a big fee to sell him and have slapped a £56m price tag on his head.
Brown is a left-back by trait and has enjoyed a promising campaign this season, making 10 goal contributions in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Having proven his worth at Deutsche Bank Park, Brown has secured his place in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany national team.
He is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, having already got Piero Hincapié, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Arsenal don’t need to invest more to add further depth to the LB position unless anyone leaves this summer.
