Arsenal prioritising signing Brentford’s Michael Kayode
Arsenal are reportedly prioritising signing Brentford defender Michael Kayode, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as the right-back options. Moreover, Cristhian Mosquera can provide cover in this position if needed.
However, the Englishman has continued to struggle with fitness problems over the last 12 months, starting only five Premier League matches thus far this season.
As a result, the Dutchman has been taking on enormous workloads, making nine goal contributions in 39 appearances this term. Moreover, he has helped his side keep 12 clean sheets.
Now, Fichajes state that Mikel Arteta is prepared to cash-in on White and wants to sign a new right-back to support Timber. Arsenal have identified Kayode as a ‘top priority’ target after being impressed by his performances this season.
However, purchasing the 21-year-old won’t be straightforward as Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid have been monitoring his development closely.
As a result, the North London club have earmarked Newcastle’s Valentino Livramento as a potential alternative option if they fail to secure Kayode’s service.
Kayode to Arsenal
The report claim that the Italian is valued at around £23m and still has a contract until 2030. So, Brentford aren’t in any rush to let him leave, but they are a selling club and are ready to cash-in on him if their asking price is matched.
Kayode is a physically strong right-back. He is quick across the ground, is good in the air, can deliver crosses from the flanks, is comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions. Moreover, he is excellent at taking long throw-ins.
The Brentford star is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him for a reasonable fee.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, following a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, Arsenal are set to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League tonight before taking on Mansfield Town in the FA Cup fifth round next weekend.
