Arsenal eye move to sign Stuttgart star Chema Andres
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing VfB Stuttgart midfielder Chema Andres, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 20-year-old started his youth career at Betera before joining Levante at the age of eight. He moved to Los Blancos’ famous La Fabrica academy back in 2018 before making his first team debut in January last year.
However, he struggled to break into the Spanish giants’ star-studded starting line-up. So, he decided to join Stuttgart last summer to play regularly and develop his career.
Andres has been playing as a rotational option at MHP Arena this season, making three goal contributions in 15 starts across all competitions. He has even been helping his side mount a top-four charge in the Bundesliga, sitting fourth in the table with 46 points from 24 matches.
Moreover, the Spaniard has helped his side reach the Europa League last 16, and they are set to play against Liga Portugal giants FC Porto next week.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal are interested in signing Andres and have been monitoring his development closely before making a potential summer swoop.
However, Manchester City and Manchester United are in this race as well, while Newcastle United are planning to make a swoop. Moreover, Real Madrid hold a £9m buyback clause, which can be triggered this summer, and are seriously considering bringing him back after following his performances this season.
Andres to Arsenal
Still, the report claim that Arsenal and Man City are currently leading the race to sign the Stuttgart star. With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Stuttgart are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to cash-in on him and he is valued at around £13m.
Andres, standing at 6ft 4in tall, is a defensive midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Andres is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
