Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Levante’s Etta Eyong
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Levante forward Etta Eyong, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
After moving to Ciudad de Valencia from Villarreal last summer, the 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar start this season, making five goal contributions in as many La Liga matches.
However, he has been struggling in recent weeks, failing to make any goal contributions in the last 13 appearances across all competitions. Overall, he has scored six goals and registered three assists in 18 La Liga starts this season.
Still, he was a key player for the Cameroonian national team at AFCON, helping his country reach the quarter-final.
Now, on X, Jacobs states that despite displaying below-average performances in recent times, Eyong isn’t short of potential suitors, and CSKA Moscow have already launched a formal £26m bid to sign him.
Levante have accepted the proposal and are pushing the striker to move to the Russian capital. So, they even benched Eyong vs Villarreal to force him to accept the move. However, the African has no intention of moving to Russia at this stage of his career.
The journalist says that Arsenal are interested in signing Eyong and could make a concrete approach in the summer. However, purchasing the forward won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United are also in this race. Moreover, Fulham and Everton are plotting a swoop.
Eyong to Arsenal
Arsenal currently have Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz as striker options. However, Gyokeres has been struggling to showcase his best consistently in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Jesus has failed to prove that he is capable enough to guide Mikel Arteta’s side to win the Premier League title. Havertz, meanwhile, has been struggling with fitness problems in recent months.
So, Arsenal could do with signing a new striker in the summer. However, there is a question mark whether Eyong possesses the necessary qualities to flourish at the Emirates Stadium, should he join.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during the offseason.
