Arsenal could look to sign Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix
Arsenal could reportedly look to sign Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix after missing out on Marc Guehi, as per the Express.
Since moving to Selhurst Park from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg ahead of last season, the 25-year-old has established himself as an integral part of Oliver Glasner’s starting line-up.
In his debut campaign, the Frenchman guided his team to win the FA Cup and Community Shield, making two goal contributions and keeping 15 clean sheets across all competitions.
This season, the towering centre-back has continued to display eye-catching performances, scoring a solitary goal and notching up two assists. Moreover, he has helped his side keep 13 clean sheets.
Now, the Express report that despite reinforcing the defensive department by signing Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié last summer, the Gunners are keen on adding further depth to the backline.
Ideally, they wanted to sign Lacroix’s colleague Marc Guehi, but Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign him in a £20m deal this month, with his existing deal set to expire at the end of this season.
Therefore, having failed to win the race for their primary target, Arsenal are ready to shift focus to alternative options and could make a move for the Frenchman.
Lacroix to Arsenal
The report state that Liverpool were also interested in Guehi, and like Mikel Arteta’s side, the Reds could also attempt to sign Lacroix as the Englishman’s alternative option.
However, Crystal Palace don’t want to lose two of their main defenders quickly, so they would be desperate to keep hold of the former Wolfsburg star with his existing deal set to run until 2029.
The 25-year-old, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, can read the game well, and is efficient in defensive contributions. He is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career.
So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
