Predicted Arsenal line-up against Liverpool

By on January 8, 2026

Arsenal

Arsenal are set to welcome reigning Premier League champions Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in a crucial league fixture tonight.

Since losing to Aston Villa last month, the Gunners have won their last five consecutive league matches, sitting at the top of the table with 48 points from 20 matches.

On the other hand, despite enjoying a bright start to this season, Liverpool have been struggling over the last few months, sitting 14 points behind the top of the table.

Arsenal lost the reverse game against the Reds at Anfield earlier this season.

Team news

Although Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera are close to returning to full fitness, they aren’t ready to be involved in this fixture yet. On the other hand, Kai Havertz was named in the matchday squad vs Aston Villa last week after recovering from his long-term injury problem.

However, he wasn’t available vs AFC Bournemouth last weekend, and there is a question mark whether he would be named in the matchday squad tonight.

Predicted line-up

David Raya is set to continue in goal, while William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes should be the centre-back pairing for the North London club. Jurrien Timber is expected to continue in the right-back position, and Piero Hincapié would be on the opposite side, meaning Myles Lewis-Skelly would have to make do with a place on the bench.

Martin Zubimendi is likely to keep hold of his place in the deep-lying playmaker position, while Declan Rice is set to be in the box-to-box role, having scored a brace last time out.

Martin Odegaard might be the creative midfielder; in that case, Mikel Merino and Ethan Nwaneri would have to make do with a place on the bench.

Arteta made changes to his wings last weekend, keeping an eye on this game, so Bukayo Saka is set to return to his preferred right flank, while Leandro Trossard would be on the opposite side. Therefore, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli could feature off the bench.

Viktor Gyokeres would be leading the line for the hosts, and Gabriel Jesus should be involved as a substitute.
