Arsenal face Brighton competition for Lucien Agoume
Arsenal’s interest in Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume could face a setback, with Brighton and Hove Albion now said to be monitoring the player.
Reports from TBR suggest the Frenchman is attracting attention after strong performances in Spain.
The Gunners were linked with him last transfer window , and he remains on their list of options as per the report.
However, the Gunners now face competition as Brighton have joined the race for his signature.
Brighton’s new transfer plans
Fabian Hürzeler’s side recently appointed technical director Jason Ayto is understood to be looking at Agoume as a possible target for the Premier League side.
Ayto previously served as Arsenal’s interim Sporting Director following Edu’s departure. During that spell, he had already highlighted Agoume as a player worth tracking.
That past connection appears to have carried over to his new role at Brighton. Agoume is now among the names he is considering for a move to the Amex Stadium.
The midfielder has been building his reputation since leaving Inter Milan for Sevilla in 2024.
His form in La Liga has impressed many observers, and he has developed into a reliable central option.
Arsenal’s midfield needs
At 23, Agoume has the physical strength and technical skill required to compete in the Premier League.
His blend of attributes makes him a player capable of adapting quickly to English football.
Arsenal are expected to strengthen their midfield in the near future. Christian Norgaard was brought in a short-term defensive midfield option but he’ll be 32 next year so a long-term replacement is needed.
With several players already established, the addition of a younger option would give Mikel Arteta more depth.
Agoume’s profile fits what the Gunners are looking for, and his ability to control the game from midfield would be valuable.
According to Transfermarkt, the Frenchman is currently valued at around £7 million.
That figure would not be a problem for Arsenal if they decide to press ahead with a bid.
However, Brighton’s interest could complicate matters. The Seagulls are known for securing young talent with potential, and Agoume matches that approach perfectly.
For now, both sides are watching developments closely. Arsenal will need to act quickly if they want to secure the midfielder before Brighton make their move.
