Arsenal lead race to sign Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka

Arsenal are reportedly ‘leading’ the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, as per German football expert Christian Falk.
Since moving to the Allianz Arena as a free agent, the 31-year-old has enjoyed great success over the years, winning six Bundesliga titles, a Champions League trophy, and numerous other major cup competitions.
The German has been guiding his side towards another league title this season, sitting top of the table with 63 points from 24 matches, while Borussia Dortmund are second with 52.
However, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging in recent months as he is set to leave the Bavarian club as a free agent at the end of this campaign.
On CF Bayern Insider, Falk reports that Arsenal expressed their interest in signing Goretzka in the winter window but didn’t make a formal proposal. Now, they could revive their interest in signing during the offseason.
Atlético Madrid were also willing to sign Goretzka in January, and Tottenham are in this race as well. However, the midfielder is prioritising moving to the Emirates Stadium, with the German believing the Premier League would be the perfect destination for him. So, Arsenal are ‘leading’ the race to seal the deal.
Goretzka, standing at 6ft 3in tall, likes to be deployed in the double midfield pivot role but is also efficient in the box-to-box position. He is quick across the ground, strong, and good in the air.

Moreover, he can chip in with some important goals, has an eye for long-range passing, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Arsenal currently have Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, and Mikel Merino as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions. However, Merino has been out injured in recent weeks, while Norgaard hasn’t been able to find regular game time.
As a result, Zubimendi and Rice have been playing almost every game, guiding the North London club to challenge on all fronts.
So, Arsenal could do with signing a midfielder, and Goretzka might be a shrewd acquisition should they purchase him, as he is an experienced player and has proven his worth at the highest level.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
