Arsenal battling with PL rivals to sign Marc Guehi
Arsenal are reportedly battling with two Premier League rivals to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, as per Football Insider.
The Gunners have been working to strengthen the squad this summer to finally win the Premier League title next season. They have missed out on achieving that feat in the previous three consecutive campaigns despite mounting a title charge.
Following Jorginho’s departure, Mikel Arteta’s side are closing in on a deal to purchase Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The player was on Liverpool’s radar last summer but rejected a move to Anfield. However, he has reportedly agreed to join the North London club.
Signing a new striker is also the Spanish boss’s priority, with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Moreover, Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa is also on their radar. Arsenal hold a long-term interest in the Englishman as they attempted to hire him in the winter window, but the Villans refused to let him leave in mid-season.
Now, Football Insider state that Arsenal are also interested in signing a new centre-back and have identified Guehi as a serious option following his commanding displays in the Premier League in recent years.
Guehi to Arsenal
The player is set to enter the final year of his current contract, and the South London club are prepared to cash-in on him this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.
However, purchasing him won’t be easy for Arsenal as Liverpool and Newcastle United are also keen on him. The Magpies have been on the trail of the 24-year-old since last summer.
Guehi, valued at around £38m by Transfermarkt, is willing to join a Champions League club, and playing regularly is his priority as he wants his spot in the England squad for next year’s World Cup.
However, Arsenal have a settled centre-back pairing in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. So, they are seemingly willing to hire Guehi as a backup option.
But Newcastle would be able to offer him the first team spot; therefore, St James’ Park might be a more appealing destination for the Englishman.
Guehi has showcased his qualities in the Premier League in recent years and helped Crystal Palace win the FA Cup trophy last season. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to persuade him to join.
