Arsenal ‘make approach’ for Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike
Arsenal have made a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike ahead of the summer transfer window, as per Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport.
Mikel Arteta wants more attacking options next season after struggling in front of goal during key matches this term.
The Gunners lacked depth in attack, and it affected their chances of winning major trophies. Injuries and poor form also contributed to the problem.
The club now plan to act quickly in the transfer market, with Ekitike high on their list. Hawkins says Arsenal have made an ‘approach’ to the player and Frankfurt to discuss a possible move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are not alone in the chase, however. Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested in the French striker and could rival Arsenal for his signature, as per the report.
Chelsea and Liverpool also keen on the Frenchman
Hawkins says Eintracht Frankfurt and Ekitike have agreed he can leave this summer if they receive offers worth at least £67 million – although the fee could rise closer to £84 million.
This fee reflects his form and growing value, as he remains one of the most promising young strikers in Europe at the moment.
Paris Saint-Germain have a 20 percent share of any capital gain from Ekitike’s sale. That clause has slightly raised his asking price.
Chelsea are believed to have strong interest in the forward. They are also in need of a top-class striker to strengthen their squad.
Ekitike has scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 matches this season. He has proven himself in the Bundesliga after leaving PSG.
The 22-year-old forward is ready for a new challenge and a move to the Premier League could suit him well.
He is known for his dribbling and passing skills. His height also makes him a big threat during aerial duels inside the box.
Arsenal see him as a possible long-term option up front. They are now in talks with both the player and Frankfurt to explore a deal.
It remains to be seen who will win the race, but Ekitike looks set to be one of the names to watch this summer.
