Arsenal plot swoop to sign Atalanta star Ederson
Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move to sign Atalanta star Ederson, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title in back-to-back seasons, the Gunners have started the new season promisingly and they have been showing signs that they would be able to mount yet another title charge this campaign.
Thomas Partey has been an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s side over the last few years and has been excellent thus far this term. However, the Ghanaian’s future is currently uncertain at the Emirates Stadium as his current contract will expire in less than nine months.
Moreover, Arteta’s side are also at risk of losing Jorginho as a free agent at the end of this season. Therefore, it appears Arsenal are looking at options in the market to sign new midfielders to replace the duo.
According to the report by Fichajes, Arsenal are planning to revitalise their squad and add more dynamism to the engine room. So, they have shown interest in signing Ederson and could make a concrete approach next year.
Ederson to Arsenal
The 25-year-old has more than two and a half years left in his current contract with La Dea so they are in no rush to sell him and want at least £50m to let him leave the club.
However, the Spanish outlet states that Liverpool and Manchester City are also plotting a swoop for the South American, therefore, it won’t be straightforward for the North London club to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
The midfielder has been in excellent form in recent years. After playing a key role in La Dea’s Europa League triumph last season, he has also enjoyed a stellar start this season.
He is a holding midfielder by traits but is also comfortable playing in the box-to-box role. He is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.
The Brazilian possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature.
