Arsenal showing ‘strong’ interest in signing Raphinha
Arsenal are reportedly showing a ‘strong’ interest in signing Barcelona star Raphinha this summer, as per TEAMtalk.
After narrowly missing out on winning the title last term, the Gunners have been mounting a title charge once again this season. They are currently at the top of the table with 83 points from 36 games, sitting only one point ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
It has been reported that Mikel Arteta is keen on reinforcing several areas of the squad in the upcoming transfer window to continue performing at their best next season. Purchasing a new striker and a midfielder is on the Spaniard’s wish-list but he is also willing to sign a new right-winger to support Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal have been exploring the market to sign a new right-winger over the last few years, but they haven’t opted to purchase anyone yet.
After being impressed by Raphinha’s displays during his time at Leeds United, the Gunners reportedly expressed their interest in him, but the Brazilian eventually opted to move to the Camp Nou.
However, according to the report by TEAMtalk, with Barcelona struggling with their financial situation, they are willing to cash-in on the former Leeds star, who has found it difficult to live up to the expectations at the Catalan giants, to balance their books.
Raphinha to Barcelona
The report further claims that Arsenal have expressed a ‘strong’ interest in signing their long-term target and could make a formal approach if an opportunity arises.
TEAMtalk further states that Barcelona are willing to recoup as much as they paid – which is around £51m – to sell Raphinha so the North London club will have to splash a big fee to lure the forward to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, the report says that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing him with Spurs showing the most concrete interest in him. So, purchasing the 27-year-old won’t be easy for Arsenal if they make a concrete approach this summer.
Raphinha is quick, can deliver excellent crosses from wide areas, has the efficiency of creating chances for fellow attackers, can finish off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession.
Although the South American hasn’t been able to flourish his career at Barcelona, he is a highly talented player and would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him this summer.
