Arsenal have reportedly started keeping an eye on the development of FC Porto star Evanilson before making a potential swoop this summer, as per the recent reports.

The Brazilian has enjoyed a promising campaign in the Portuguese top-flight this term, scoring 11 goals and registering three assists in 22 league appearances.

According to the report by HITC(via O Jogo), Arsenal are interested in signing Evanilson and they have recently sent scouts to watch the forward in action against Estoril last weekend.

The South American featured in both the games against Arsenal in the round of 16 of the Champions League – where the Gunners eventually came away victorious over the two legs on penalties. So, Mikel Arteta’s side may have seen enough performances of him to determine whether they would make a move for him this summer.

The Portuguese outlet states that Evanilson has a £86m release clause included in his current contract so the North London club will have to splash a huge amount of money to lure the striker to the Emirates Stadium this summer should they formalise their interest.

However, the report says that Newcastle United are also keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old’s development so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.

Arsenal are reportedly prioritising strengthening their frontline this summer and have been linked with numerous names ahead of the summer window.

Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have all been suggested as key targets for the North London club with Evanilson now emerging as a new serious option.

The Brazilian is a talented player and has showcased glimpses of his qualities for Porto in recent years. However, he hasn’t displayed his best at the highest level consistently enough yet to prove that he would be the right option to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions if they purchase him.

So, the Emirates club might be better off exploring other options to reinforce their frontline, especially if Porto demand a fee of around £86m for Evanilson this summer.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign him in the upcoming window.
