Kylian Mbappe

Mikel Arteta, via Arsenal.com, has admitted that Arsenal should be in the running to sign a player of Kylian Mbappe’s calibre. Micah Richards, on the other hand, has explained on The Rest is Football why the striker may be an ideal Arsenal signing.

There has been constant speculation that Mbappe will quit PSG. According to The Athletic, the Frenchman has informed the French side that he will leave in the summer. News of his departure has linked him to a number of clubs, though it is widely assumed that he will join Real Madrid.

The Independent echoed the World Cup winners’ links to Los Blancos. However, they also suggested that Mbappe would “willingly join” Arsenal to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, should the opportunity arise.

Well, from that report by The Independent, some Arsenal fans believe they have a chance of signing the 25-year-old. And Mikel Arteta’s latest news conference has added fuel to the fire. The Spaniard has hinted that Arsenal should be in the conversation to sign the player is he leaves PSG. However, he points out that it appears likely that Mbappe ‘will go a different way’.

When asked about Arsenal’s interest in Mbappe, Arteta is quoted as telling Arsenal.com:

“When there is a player of that calibre, we always have to be in the conversation. But, as you said, it looks like it will go a different way,”

Kylian Mbappe is a top striker

As Arteta ‘argues’, Arsenal should be in the running for Kylian Mbappe; Micah Richards has said why they should be. The former Premier League defender believes Mbappe is the best striker in the world – even better striker than Harry Kane. Those who watched Kane in the Premier League know he is the real deal.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards candidly explained why Mbappe is the real deal.

“Mbappe is the most complete forward; Kane is up there in terms of link-up play, passing, and scoring; Mbappe can turn a game on its head. His skill, his touch. He’s the most complete player in that position in the world. He’d be my number one player in the world without a doubt,” Richards said.

Mbappe is widely expected to join Real Madrid, but until that move is confirmed Arsenal still have a slight chance. Some bookmakers even have the Gunners as second favourites [behind Madrid] to sign the Frenchman.

In Mbappe, they may still have a slim chance to sign arguably the best player in the world. And what a coup it would be if they could somehow pull it off.
