Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martínez in the upcoming transfer window, as per CBS Sports.

After moving to the Giuseppe Meazza back in 2018, the 26-year-old has established himself as a talismanic figure for the Nerazzurri in recent times, helping his side win Scudetto and a few domestic cup competitions over the last few seasons.

The Argentinian has been enjoying a stellar campaign this term, scoring 15 goals and registering two assists in 16 league appearances and helping his side mount a title charge this season. Inter are currently at the summit of the table with 44 points from 17 games.

So, it is not a surprise to see Arsenal have registered their interest in signing a player of the South American’s calibre. The Gunners previously expressed their interest in signing Martinez but didn’t opt to make a concrete approach.

However, things could be different this time around. According to the report by CBS Sports, after failing to break down West Ham United’s defence last night, Arsenal could now intensify their pursuit of a new striker in January.

Martinez to Arsenal

The report further claims that the Gunners have been showing an interest in signing Martinez and they could opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature in January. But, there is doubt whether the Argentinian would want to leave Inter in mid-season.

CBS Sports also says that along with Martinez, Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface are also on Arsenal’s radar but Ivan Toney is the primary target.

Martinez – valued at around £96m by Transfermarkt – still has more than two and a half years left in his current contract. So, Inter are set to demand a huge fee to let their star man leave next year.

Martinez has already showcased his talents in the Italian top-flight so he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal to bolster their frontline if they purchase him in January.

However, there is a question mark whether he possesses the adequate physicality to flourish in the Premier League. So, I think Arsenal could be better off exploring other options to reinforce their frontline in the upcoming window.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the North Londo club eventually opt to formalise their interest in acquiring his service next year.
