Arsenal considering signing Joao Palhinha in January
Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Fulham star Joao Palhinha in the winter window, as per Football Transfers.
After moving to Craven Cottage last year, the midfielder has enjoyed a stellar time in the English top-flight. So, after being impressed by the Portuguese’s performances, several big clubs around Europe have registered their interest in signing him.
Bayern Munich expressed a firm interest in signing the midfielder and were very close to acquiring his service last summer. However, they eventually couldn’t manage to finalise the move before the deadline so the dead fell through.
However, it has been suggested that despite failing to secure his signature last time around, the German giants remain interested in him and are looking to reignite their interest in January.
But, it has been reported that Liverpool have now joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign the Portugal international so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their rival in getting any potential move for him.
Palhinha to Arsenal
The North London club are seemingly planning to sign a new holding midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has been struggling with injury problems in recent times.
Several players have been mentioned as potential targets for Arsenal with Andre Trindade, Arthur Vermeeran and Martin Zubimendi being among them. But, Douglas Luiz has emerged as the primary option.
However, according to the report by Football Transfers, Aston Villa have slapped a whopping £110m price tag on Luiz’s head to let him leave in January so Arsenal have decided to shift focus to an alternative target and have identified Palhinha as a serious option.
The report further states that Palhinha could leave Fulham next year and Marco Silva’s side are ready to cash-in on their star man if they receive an offer of around £50m from his potential suitors such as Arsenal. So, the Fulham star would be a significantly cheaper alternative to Luiz.
Palhinha is a talented player and has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League. So, he would be an excellent signing for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to purchase the Fulham star in the upcoming transfer window to bolster their engine room.
