Manchester United legend Roy Keane has said that Arsenal could beat Manchester City in the title race this season.

Despite remaining at the top of the table for the majority of last season, the Gunners missed out on winning the Premier League title to the Citizens as they ran out of gas during the business end.

So, the North London club opted to splash over £200m last summer to reinforce their squad and bridge the gap with Pep Guardiola’s side. Arsenal have enjoyed a promising start this season, accumulating 36 points from 15 games and sitting at the top of the table.

Liverpool are currently second in the league, only two points behind the Gunners, while Man City are fourth having failed to win their last four league games. So, the Citizens have fallen behind in the title race at the moment.

Speaking on The Overlap, Keane has claimed that Arsenal have become a title rival for Man City at the moment, however, it seemed they didn’t believe they could beat the Citizens last term as they lost to them thrice in all competitions before eventually losing the title.

The pundit, however, states that Arsenal’s recent displays should give them belief they can beat Man City and go all the way in the title race this term.

Keane said:

“The biggest rivals last year [to Manchester City] was Arsenal and when they played last year, in two league games and the FA Cup, they were so far ahead of them. Whereas this year you look at Arsenal, and that will give them belief that they can compete and beat them.

“I don’t know if they had that real belief last year that they could beat them, but I think if you’re in Arsenal’s camp, you must think, ‘do you know what lads, we’ve got a chance’.”

Arsenal have had a promising start this season, while the Citizens have struggled to showcase consistency having won the treble last campaign. However, Man City tend to get better as the season progresses and if they can get their rhythm back over the coming months then it will be hard for the North London club to beat Guardiola’s side in this title race.

Liverpool have also enjoyed a stellar start this season and they have been showing signs that they could also turn out to be a challenger for the league this term.
