Arsenal remain keen on signing Gabri Veiga this summer

By on July 11, 2023

Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga in this transfer window, as per the French outlet Le10Sport.

The Gunners have already splashed more than £200m this summer. They have signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea and are on the verge of purchasing Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber.

But, it has been reported that the North London club won’t stop their spending spree just yet as they are planning to sign two more players before the end of this window.

It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta wants to purchase another midfield option after Rice and Romeo Lavia has widely been mentioned as the primary target. However, it seems Arsenal may find it difficult to lure the Belgian to the Emirates Stadium as Liverpool are also keen on signing him.

In addition, Arsenal feel Southampton’s £45m valuation is unrealistic and don’t want to match it. So, it appears Arsenal have opted to shift focus to alternative targets and have identified Veiga as a serious target.

Veiga to Arsenal

According to the report by Le10Sport, Arsenal have been showing an interest in Veiga and they could make a concrete approach to secure his signature over the coming days. The report further claims that Veiga is ready to take the next step in his career and is eager to move to the Premier League.

However, Le10Sport states that signing Veiga won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing him.

It has previously been reported that Veiga has been excited by the Gunners’ interest as he ‘dreams’ of playing under Arteta. So, Arsenal are seemingly in an advantageous position over their rivals in persuading the 21-year-old to join the club.

It has been suggested that Veiga has a £34m release clause in his current contract and Celta don’t want to let their star man leave unless his potential suitors, such as Arsenal, trigger it. So, it appears Arsenal will have to spend big to acquire his services.

Veiga can play multiple positions across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, has the ability to create chances for the attackers and also can finish off his chances.

The Spaniard possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s possession-based style of football. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they eventually decide to purchase Veiga in this transfer window.

He looks a bit soft, like another underdeveloped Viera! I think Arsenal are more than likely looking to add a bit of grit to the team and he does not fit that profile.

It’s well known that the shortfall in Arsenal’s defensive midfield contributed in loosing the EPL title. Arsenal has been aware of this situation for quite a while and in the January transfer window made an attempt to redress the situation but failed to lure Caicedo to the Emirates. The defensive side still needs some concrete additions. Arsenal gonna be in multiple competitions this season, as such need to buy quality, proven players.
