Arsenal pushing hard to sign Joao Felix this January
Arsenal are reportedly pushing hard to sign Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix in January, as per Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth.
It is an open secret that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their squad this winter in order to help their title charge this term.
Strengthening the attacking department has seemingly been Mikel Arteta’s priority this January. And it has widely been touted that they are looking to purchase both Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix.
The north London club have accelerated their efforts to sign Mudryk and have submitted two official proposals to acquire the Ukrainian’s service this month.
On the other hand, the Gunners are also looking to broker a deal for Felix and have already made contact with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes over a potential move this winter.
Joao Felix to Arsenal
Speaking on Stretford Paddock YouTube channel, Dharmesh Sheth has reported that Arsenal ‘are really pushing’ to sign Felix and the Emirates outfit want to purchase both Mudryk and the Portuguese international.
Sheth said:
“The information that I’m getting from sources in Portugal is that Arsenal are really pursuing the Joao Felix deal. They’re trying to get Felix and Mudryk as well.”
Meanwhile, transfer expert David Ornstein has said that Shakhtar are holding firm on their £85m valuation to sell Mudryk. So, it is likely that this deal could drag on for a long time and therefore, Arsenal could sign Felix ahead of the Ukraine international this month.
Signing Felix on loan is the most likely scenario for Arteta’s side as it is almost impossible for the Gunners to match Atletico’s £85m valuation to purchase the 23-year-old permanently AND pay a huge fee for Mudryk.
However, signing the youngster on loan won’t be a cheap deal either as the north London club will reportedly need to spend a fee of around £16m, including the player’s salary, to acquire the forward’s service for only six months.
Nevertheless, with Arsenal needing reinforcements in their attacking department following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, replacing the Brazilian with a talent like Felix would be a wise decision. Hence, it will be interesting to see whether the club’s hierarchy will be able to purchase the Atletico man this January.
