Arsenal hold talks with agent as Arteta plots Youri Tielemans swoop

By on January 12, 2022

According to Goal, Arsenal have held talks with the agent of Youri Tielemans as Mikel Arteta looks to try and lure the Leicester City midfielder to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are in the market to strengthen their midfield this month as we’re down to the bare bones in the middle of the park with Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny away at the African Cup of Nations.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined Roma on loan while Granit Xhaka is on the sidelines with covid so we desperately need midfield reinforcements and we’ve been strongly linked with Bruno Guimaraes and Arthur this week.

However, it appears Arteta is also planning ahead to the summer transfer window as Goal claims that Arsenal chiefs have held talks with Tielemans’ agents at London Colney in recent weeks to discuss move to North London.

The Belgian international has just 18 months left on his contract and is not expected to sign an extension, and the report says Arsenal are ‘determined’ to be in the mix for the 24-year-old’s signature.

Arsenal in the mix

Leicester City are refusing to sell Tielemans this month as they hope to convince him to sign a new deal during the second half of the season but the midfielder is expected to snub their advances which means a summer move is on the cards.

It appears Arsenal are in the fight to sign the talented midfielder and he should be available at a reasonable price given he’ll have just 12 months left on his contract in June.

Tielemans knows the Premier League well and has 47 caps for Belgium so he’d bring some much needed experience in the middle of the park if he did sign for Arsenal this summer.

No doubt we’ll face plenty of competition for his signature but if we can finish fourth we’ll be able to offer Tielemans Champions League football, which could be a deciding factor in his decision.

Let’s see how things develop over the coming months but I think Tielemans would be an excellent signing if Arteta could pull it off.
