According to Football London, Kia Joorabchian will act as an intermediary agent for Arsenal as they look to beat Juventus to the signing of Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Mikel Arteta is in the market for midfield reinforcements this month as Arsenal have been left desperately short of options in the middle of the park during a key part of the season.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are at the African Cup of Nations while Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been allowed to join AS Roma on loan. To make matters worse, Granit Xhaka is currently out with covid so 18-year-old Charlie Patino was given his full debut during Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

We have just one ‘senior’ midfielder available – 22-year-old Albert Sambi Lokonga – so Arteta has confirmed he’s on the look out for a new central midfielder and Guimaraes has emerged as a prime target.

The Brazilian international has been hugely impressive since joining Lyon from Athletico Paranaense in 2020 and Arsenal scouts have been tracking his progress for some time.

We aren’t the only club in the running as Goal Brazil claims that Juventus have joined Arsenal in the race to sign the 24-year-old. The Italians have already asked to take Guimaraes on loan but Lyon made it clear any loan deal would need to include an obligation to make the transfer permanent for £37.5m in the summer.

According to the report, Juventus are unlikely to be in a position to agree such a deal due to their financial situation, which leaves Arsenal in a strong position to strike a deal for the South American midfielder.

In addition, Football London claims that super agent Kia Joorabchian will act as an intermediary agent in negotiations to try and help Arsenal agree terms for Guimaraes. Joorabchian is close with Edu and the pair have done business several times in recent years so it looks like the agent is ready to use his connections to help the Gunners try and land Guimaraes this month.

I think the Lyon ace would be a sensational signing for us as he’d be a major upgrade on the midfielders we currently have on our books. A loan deal with an obligation to buy at £37.5m in the summer sounds like an excellent piece of business so let’s hope Arsenal are willing to agree those terms and can lure Guimaraes to north London.
