Report: Arsenal in talks over bargain deal to sign want-away international star
According to Sport via TeamTalk, Arsenal have entered negotiations over a deal to sign Miralem Pjanic on season long loan and the midfielder is keen to leave Barcelona as soon as possible.
Mikel Arteta is in the market for midfield reinforcements and we’re reportedly on the verge of signing Anderlecht star Albert Lokonga with the youngster expected to seal a move to the Emirates over the coming days.
However, with Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard back at Madrid, Matteo Guendouzi off to Marseille and Granit Xhaka, Joe Willock and Lucas Torreira also expected to leave, Arsenal need to bring in a couple more midfielders this summer.
Pjanic has seemingly emerged as a surprise target as TeamTalk are citing a report from today’s print version of Sport that claims Arsenal have joined the race to sign the want-away Bosnian international.
The 31-year-old has been linked with the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea in recent days but the Spanish publication says Arsenal have now entered negotiations over a possible season long loan move.
Free deal
According to Sport, Barcelona are keen to get Pjanic off the books as they desperately try to lower their wage bill and Arsenal are ready to cover all of the player’s wages as long as no loan fee is involved.
The reports seems to suggest this deal would be acceptable to Barca and while Pjanic would ideally prefer a move back to Juventus, that appears unlikely. Juve aren’t in a position to make any move right now and Pjanic wants his future resolved soon so he doesn’t have to return to the Catalan club for pre-season.
This means Arsenal are in a strong position to get a deal done and Sport thinks a move to the Premier League is the most likely outcome for Pjanic. Will it be to Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs? We’ll have to wait and see but Pjanic could be a shrewd piece of business if we can win the race.
The Bosnian was excellent during his time at Juventus and although things haven’t worked out for him since he joined Barca last summer, he’s still a terrific midfielder who would strengthen Arsenal’s squad.
Pjanic could be an experienced short-term replacement for Xhaka and it would be a bargain to snap him up on a free loan deal, so this move could suit all parties.
