Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal finalising £15m deal to sign star, personal terms agreed

By on July 6, 2021

Fabrizio Romano has offered another update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Albert Lokonga this evening and he claims the £15m deal is being finalised with Anderlecht.

Lokonga has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer after being identified by the club as a key transfer target as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul his midfield options.

Granit Xhaka is expected to seal a move to Italy, Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard have already returned to Real Madrid while Matteo Guendouzi has joined Marseille. Joe Willock and Lucas Torreira should also find new clubs this summer so Arsenal need to bring in at least two midfielders.

Lokonga is firmly on our radar and it appears we’re now closing in on a deal as Romano says Arsenal are working on the final details with Anderlecht before signing the paperwork.

The Guardian journalist claims the deal will cost Arsenal £15m [€17m] plus add-ons and Lokonga has already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract ahead of his proposed move to north London.

Great talent

This update comes after it emerged that Lokonga hasn’t travelled with the rest of the Anderlecht squad for their pre-season training camp in Holland so it looks like Arsenal are on the verge of getting a deal over the line.

The 22-year-old has developed into one of the best young talents in Belgian football since breaking into the Anderlecht team and he’s tipped to become a full Belgian international having been named on the stand-by list for Euro 2020.

Lokonga is known for his excellent passing range and for his ability to carry the ball forwards from deep so he sounds like just the type of player we’re looking for. Obviously he’ll need some time to adjust but he should prove to be an exciting long-term addition to the squad.

He won’t be the only new arrival this summer as Arteta is expected to make several signings with Nuno Tavares reportedly close to joining Arsenal while we’re also still in the hunt for Ben White.
