Arsenal eyeing swoop for £45m star as Emery looks for Ramsey replacement

By on January 9, 2019

According to reports in Italy via the Metro, Arsenal have joined the chase to sign Cagliari’s £45m-rated midfielder Nicolo Barella as Unai Emery looks to replace Aaron Ramsey over the coming months.

Ramsey is set to end his 10-year association with Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the season and the Welshman is strongly tipped to make a free transfer move to Juventus.

His exit will leave a void needing to be filled and we’ve been linked with a swoop for Denis Suarez this week but are reportedly struggling to agree a deal with Barcelona for the £20m-rated midfielder [source: Metro].

It looks like Emery is keeping his options open as the Metro and citing a report from Italian outlet Gianluca Di Marzio.com that claims Arsenal are also showing a keen interest in signing Barella.

The 21-year-old is one of the hottest properties in Italian football and the report suggests that Arsenal will face stiff competition for his signature from Chelsea and Napoli, while a host of other clubs have also been linked recently.

The Metro claim that Cagliari are demanding around £45m for Barella and while Chelsea are expected to hold talks about a move this month, it’s believed Arsenal need to wait until the end of the season when more funds will be available.

That could see us miss out on the Italian international if the likes of Chelsea or Napoli are able to strike a deal in January. The hope is Cagliari will refuse to sell mid-season and Arsenal can then compete for Barella’s signature in the summer.
