Rumour: Arsenal launch late £90m bid to sign La Liga star

By on August 9, 2018

According to Spanish journalist Kike Marin, Arsenal have launched an audacious £90m bid to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele and the player must now decide whether to accept the move.

Unai Emery admitted last week he wanted to bring in one more player before the window shut and the majority of reports have been linking us with a centre-back with Besiktas’s Domagoj Vida the primary target.

However, as I’ve said for several months, we also need to add a pacey attacker to our ranks and we look light in that area with Lucas Perez joining West Ham and Danny Welbeck also being linked with a move.

Dembele has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks with several reports suggesting we’ve been trying to engineer a move for the French international.

It looks like we’ve now formalised our interest as Spanish journalist Kike Marin – who works for El Confidential – claims Arsenal have now made a stunning £90m [€100m] move to sign Dembele and it’s now down to the player to accept a move to the Emirates.

His tweet translates to “Confirmed: #Arsenal has offered to #FCBarcelona € 100 million for Dembelé. The key is whether the French attacker wants to go or not. Time is running out…”

Dembele has been tipped to leave the Nou Camp after struggling last season following his big money move from Borussia Dortmund last summer and he’s set to fall down the pecking order following the arrival of Malcom.

The 21-year-old has enormous talent and he’d be a dream signing if we could somehow pull it off but it seems fanciful that Arsenal would be prepared to spend £90m on top of the £70m we’ve already spent this summer.

Other reports suggest we’ve actually offered to pay £10m as a loan fee with the option to pay the remaining £80m next summer, which would seem far more likely.

Either way, I pray these is some truth behind the reports as Dembele would be an amazing signing and he already knows plenty of the players. He was pictured in London last week with Aubameyang, Lacazette and Mkhitaryan and he knows two of them from their time together at Dortmund.
