BBC journalist – New Arsenal signing ‘imminent’, fee and personal terms all agreed

By on July 6, 2018

BBC journalist David Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal are on the verge of signing Lucas Torreira with a fee and personal terms already agreed for the Sampdoria midfielder.

New boss Unai Emery has been looking to bring in a specialist defensive midfielder and Torreira has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates this summer.

A £26m deal was reportedly agreed before the 22-year-old flew out to the World Cup finals but Torreira’s father confirmed earlier this week that the player passed-up the chance to conduct his medical over in Russia as he wanted to focus on representing his country.

Ricardo Torreira did reveal that a move to Arsenal was virtually a ‘done deal’ but fans were still concerned our transfer could be hijacked after the tough tackling midfielder’s superb displays for Uruguay at the World Cup.

However, we can breath easy as Arsenal’s unofficial mouthpiece in the media – David Ornstein – has tweeted to confirm that we hope to conclude the signing of Torreira at some point next week.

The BBC journalist says a fee has been agreed with Sampdoria and personal terms with Torreira have also been settled upon. Ornstein says the signing is now ‘imminent’ and when the medical takes place will depend on whether Torreira flies straight to London from Russia or heads back to Uruguay first after they were knocked out by France this afternoon.

Interestingly, Ornstein also claims Torreira will be Arsenal’s final first team signing of the summer but we are expected to bring in a younger player who’s considered one for the future.

If Ornstein says it, it’s pretty-much come straight from Arsenal as he gets briefed by the club so it looks like Torreira is set to become our fourth signing of the summer next week.

He’ll be a superb addition to the squad as he has all the attributes we’ve lacked in recent years. The South American is a proper defensive midfielder so we’ll finally have some protection for the back four.
