Arsenal trying to wrap-up £17.5m signing, agent in London discussing terms
According to reports via TeamTalk, Arsenal are trying to wrap-up a £17.5m deal to sign Ever Banega after his agent arrived in London on Thursday night to hold talks over a move from Sevilla.
Unai Emery is in the market for a couple of midfield players as Santi Cazorla has re-joined Villarreal, Jack Wilshere has confirmed he’s leaving when his contract expires at the end of the month and Aaron Ramsey is yet to agree terms over an extension.
We’re widely tipped to seal a deal to sign Sampdoria defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira but Emery needs another option in the middle of the park and Banega has emerged as a prime target over the past week.
It looks like things are moving quickly as TeamTalk are citing a report from Gazzetta dello Sport that claims Banega’s agent, Marcelo Simonian, arrived in London on Thursday night to hold formal talks with Arsenal chiefs.
The Argentinean international had concerns over the amount of playing time he’d get if he moved to the Emirates but the Italian outlet says Arsenal have eased those fears by promising he’d be an important player at the club.
Emery knows Banega well as they won two Europa League’s during their time together at Sevilla and our new boss seemingly wants a reunion in north London with TeamTalk suggesting a deal could be tied-up over the coming days.
The report says the 29-year-old midfielder’s release clause is set at £17.5m and that seems to be the sort of price-range Arsenal are looking at this summer so it’s certainly a realistic deal.

Emery reportedly has a transfer kitty of around £50m-£70m this summer so with the majority going on Bernd Leno, Sokratis and Torreira, we may need to sell before we make further purchases so the likes of Joel Campbell and Lucas Perez could make way to bolster our transfer funds.
