[Video] Arsenal confirm Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will wear iconic shirt number
Arsenal have confirmed on Twitter that new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will wear the iconic number 14 shirt.
After weeks of negotiations with Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang finally completed his move to the Emirates this afternoon after completing his medical at London Colney this morning.
The Gabon international has signed a long-term contract and while Arsenal didn’t divulge the fee, Dortmund had to announce it to their shareholders with the German’s claiming we’ve paid €63m [£56].
Aubameyang’s arrival sparked a striker merry-go-round that saw Michy Batshuayi join Dortmund on loan with Olivier Giroud heading to Chelsea in an £18m deal.
The 28-year-old’s signing has been met with jubilation among Arsenal fans and it was just the boost we needed after last night’s shocking defeat at Swansea.
Arsenal have now confirmed that Aubameyang will wear the No.14 shirt during the second half of the season. The number was vacated after Theo Walcott joined Everton but it’s best known for a certain Arsenal legend called Thierry Henry.
Aubameyang certainly has some big shoes to fill if he’s to replicate the success Henry had but he’s a confident boy and has already compared himself to Theirry in his first interview.
