Aubameyang update: Star set to sign £180k-a-week deal after Arsenal agree £57m fee

By on January 29, 2018

According to local Dortmund outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, Arsenal have agreed a deal in principal with Borussia Dortmund worth around £57m for the signature of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

We’ve been deep in talks with Dortmund trying to thrash out a deal over the past week after chief exec Ivan Gazidis, head scout Sven Mislintat and legal expert Huss Fahmy flew-out to Dortmund last weekend.

Initial negotiations seemed to drag as Arsenal’s opening offers were rebuffed by the German outfit and they took a huge risk after recalling Aubameyang for their 2-2 draw with Frieburg on Saturday.

That risk looks like it has paid off as local Dortmund media outlet Ruhr Nachrichten are reporting that Arsenal have upped their offer from £50m to around £57m.

The report says a deal has now been agreed in principal and the Mirror reported over the weekend that Aubameyang has agreed terms over a three-and-a-half year deal worth £180,000-a-week.

However, there is still one final hurdle to overcome before the transfer can be completed as Dortmund still need to find a replacement. They wanted Olivier Giroud on loan but various reports say he doesn’t want to leave London.

Ruhr Nachrichten claim Dortmund have now turned their attention to signing Anthony Modeste from Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian so if they can get a deal agreed for him then Aubameyang will be free to complete his switch to Arsenal.

It’s been a tense game of poker played between Arsenal and Dortmund but it looks like a deal has finally been agreed and Aubameyang should be a Gunner before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday night.

Obviously he’ll be a hugely exciting signing as he’s one of the best strikers in the world but I’m still curious to see how he’ll fit in to the team. Plus, signing Aubameyang won’t solve all our problems as we’re still crying out for a new centre-back and central midfielder.

It sounds like a deal for Jonny Evans could still happen during the final days of the window but any new midfield signing will have to wait until the summer.

If we sign Auba, what happens with Lacazette? I cannot see Wenger playing with two main strikers – does it mean Laca will start on the bench? (hope so, l think he was a total waste of money)

You are incorrect on that for sure… lacazette goal scoring record was just as prolific last season. He has been adapting but has been far more effective than Morata and Lakaku. He is class and his build up play is great and will be our star forward for many seasons to follow… Auba can play in the sanchez role behind Laca… they can be great together… Jesus and Aguero seem to be doing pretty well in the same team 😉
