Wenger confirms Arsenal have agreed first January signing

By on January 4, 2018

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal have agreed their first signing of the January window with Konstantinos Mavropanos arriving from PAS Giannina.

Mavropanos emerged as a surprise target earlier this week with widespread reports claiming we were closing in on a deal with the player believed to be in London finalising his move.

The 20-year-old centre-back had been identified by new chief scout Sven Mislintat as a hot prospect for the future and he has played a key role in getting a deal done as he’s got close links with the player’s agent.

Wenger was quizzed about the reports following our 2-2 draw with Chelsea last night and the boss confirmed that a deal has been agreed for Mavropanos to join Arsenal but we’ll loan him out as he’s not ready to play for us just yet.

When asked if Mavropanos is set to join Arsenal, the boss told the Mirror:

“Yes, but he’s not ready to play for us. We’ll give him out on loan.”

The Mirror claim we’ll pay PAS Giannina around £2.2m for the young defender and a loan move to Werder Bremen is expected once the deal goes through.

Mavropanos has developed in to one of the most exciting young talents in Greek football since breaking in to the Giannina first team last year and he’s already racked up 20 appearances for the Super League club.

The likes of Olympiakos were believed to be keen on the youngster but he’s chosen Arsenal and it looks like he’ll become our first signing of the January window.

Obviously he’s not going to be a first team player any time soon so hopefully the boss has some more established targets in mind for this month as we badly need reinforcements.

Hey idiot. We know. It happened yesterday. Do we have to read about it over and over now?
