Arsenal make contact over big-money deal to sign Serie A star

By on July 18, 2017

According to a report in the Daily Star, Arsenal have made contact with Napoli to enquire over the possibility of signing centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.

Arsene Wenger is being tipped to bring in another central defender as Mertesacker is due to retire next summer, Chambers is expected to leave, Gabriel is nursing a serious knee injury and Koscielny has been plagued by Achilles issues for the past two years.

It looks like the boss has already started to work on his targets as the Daily Star are citing a report coming from TMW that claims Arsenal have lodged an enquiry with Napoli over a deal to sign Koulibaly.

The 26-year-old has developed in to one of the best centre-backs in Serie A since joining Napoli from Genk in 2014 and he was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League last summer.

However, he ended up staying at the Stadio San Paolo and signing a new long-term contract but that hasn’t deterred Arsenal from making a move for his signature.

Koulibaly’s agent, Bruno Satin, suggested last month that the defender could secure a move before the window closes at the end of August. He’s quoted as saying by the Daily Star:

“Koulibaly? The transfer market is long as it will be open until August 31, something might happen before then,”

Any potential deal would require a huge transfer fee but Koulibaly could be worth the investment as the Senegal international has all the attributes to be an excellent signing for us.

However, the Daily Star say we’ll find it difficult trying to persuade Napoli in to a deal as they have no interest in selling the defender, so it appears unlikely that Koulibaly will be following Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac in moving to Arsenal this summer.
