Arsenal boss reveals double injury concern ahead of Southampton trip
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his press conference this morning ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Southampton and he’s given reporters a team news update.
The boss has revealed that Laurent Koscielny is a fitness doubt after picking up a knock during Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United.
It wasn’t made clear what the exact nature of the injury is but Wenger says the centre-back will have a fitness test today to see if he’ll be available for the trip to St Marys.
The boss has also given the latest on Granit Xhaka after he limped off during the second half against United after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury that he initially picked up against Tottenham.
Xhaka will also undergo a late fitness test but Arsene says the midfielder looks to have recovered well so it sounds like Xhaka should be fit to face the Saints tomorrow.
There was also some positive news regarding Lucas Perez as Wenger says the striker is now fit and available for selection after recovering from a minor injury setback.
Perez hasn’t featured since our FA Cup win over Lincoln City on March 11th due to a thigh problem and suffered a setback in training last week but he could now return to the squad tomorrow.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
“We have some worries for Koscielny, that he might not be fit for Southampton, he will have a test today,”
“Xhaka similar, but he looks to have recovered well, the news for him is better but he will have a test as well today.”
Wenger says Lucas Perez is fit again: "He was back in training yesterday."

We head in to tomorrow’s game knowing a win would see us climb above United in to fifth position and close the gap on the top four to three points so it’s vital we come away with a win from the south coast.
