[Player Ratings] Bayern 5-1 Arsenal: Ozil & Coquelin flop big time

A shambolic second half performance has put Arsenal on the verge of Champions League elimination after we lost 5-1 to Bayern Munich tonight.

The first half was actually a success as we went in to the break at 1-1 and we could even have been ahead if Xhaka or Ozil had taken one of their chances.

However, the second period was a complete embarrassment as we totally collapsed to slump to a familiar 5-1 defeat at the Allianz.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  7/10 | Stunning save to deny Martinez and another decent effort to keep Costa out but should have done better for the crucial second and fourth goals.

Bellerin  6/10 | Looked nervy early on but did well enough against Costa. Combined well with Oxlade-Chamberlain a few times.

Mustafi  5/10 | Poor for the Lewandowski header and fell asleep for Thiago’s goal just a minute later. A night to forget.

Koscielny  7/10 | Won the penalty and was marshalling Lewandowski well before going off with a hamstring injury just after half time. Crucial turning point in the tie.

Gibbs  4/10 | Roasted by Lahm and Robben all night. Left exposed as Iwobi was next to useless.

Coquelin  4/10 | Awful defending to allow Robben in on his left foot for the opener. Inexcusable. Chased shadows before being subbed in the 76th minute. Unbelievably he failed to make a single successful tackle while on the field.

Xhaka  5.5/10 | Missed a great chance to make it 2-1 just before half time. Crucial miss. Was solid enough in the first half but all over the place after the break.

Iwobi  4/10 | Passing was shocking and was barely involved other than giving away a few free kicks. Didn’t protect Gibbs. No idea why he started.

Ozil  4/10 | So difficult to back him after another hugely disappointing display. Missed a great chance right before half time to make it 2-1 which would have made it a completely different story. Wandered around for much of the game. A luxury player we couldn’t afford to carry tonight.

Ox-Chamberlain  5.5/10 | Was dangerous in spurts and at least put some hard graft in.

Sanchez  6.5/10 | Awful penalty but made up for it with a superb finish for 1-1. Too selfish at times in the second half and was understandably frustrated.

Subs:

Gabriel  5/10 | Dragged out of position and out-foxed by Lewandowski’s flick for their third goal. Massive down-grade on Kos and it proved crucial.

Walcott, Giroud N/A

So it was another humiliating night for Arsenal and surely this has to be the final straw for Wenger. He’s been undone on the big stage yet again and if he had any dignity, he’d announce he’s leaving at the end of the season asap.
