Wenger offers update after Gabriel suffers horror injury

By on August 7, 2016

Arsene Wenger has offered his initial thoughts after Gabriel was forced off on a stretcher with a serious ankle injury during our win over Man City this evening.

The Brazilian went down in a heap during the final minute of our friendly victory over City in Gothenburg and left the field in tears after several minutes of treatment.

Replays of the incident show Gabriel seemingly catching his studs in the turf and twisting his left knee while competing for a ball and the defender went over while putting his full weight down on his left leg.

My initial thoughts were it could have been an ACL knee injury but the physio used a brace/splint on Gabriel’s lower leg/ankle so it appears that’s the area of concern.

The general consensus on Twitter is that Gabriel has suffered at least a serious ligament injury but he may have a broken ankle, however, but Arsene looks to be playing down the injury.

Speaking to reporters after the game, the boss said that it was at least an ankle sprain and that Gabriel was in a lot of pain, but they hope the injury isn’t as bad as it looked.

He also seemed to suggest that Gabriel may not be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after saying he was ‘likely’ to miss the Liverpool game next week.

A dreadful looking injury which is likely to side – line Gabriel for some time.Perhaps now Wenger might put his hand in his pocket and finally bring in a much needed experienced Central Defender. That said I was thoroughly underwhelmed by his performance today prior to his injury.I have similarly found him wanting ever since his abhorration against Diego Costa and Chelsea. If I were Wenger and I’m obviously not..I would go straight to Swansea and buy Ashley Williams…a proven Prier League performer…a leader as proven in the Euros..and someone who could mentor all three of our young Centre Backs.Admittedly he’s past 30,has no resale value and might need persuading that he should end his career with a team that could potentially win trophies.

He performed very well at the back, only to get injured when the game was a minute to go. This is not good news for us. I hope Wenger will do something urgently to replace the injured player.

    Um, er… Hello!

Everyone is saying”Wenger must go out and buy A defender” (singular)

We already needed reinforcement in defense BEFORE last night’s injury to Gabriel. Per Mertesacker is also out for a while. So Wenger must buy TWO experienced defenders, minimum.

    Get well soon Gab

anyone who thinks we will be getting a new centre half before sunday is as deluded as he is. plus, once it has been confirmed that gabriel is out till next year, centre halves are suddenly going to go up £5m. no doubt the internal solution will be debuchy or monreal. once again terrible squad management by wenger – he’s now gambling our season on picking up bargains on the last day of the transfer window and then he can claim what a genius he is and how he always likes to play high stakes poker. the sooner he is gone the better although the board will probably probably let him pick his successor. absolutely pathetic.

I see the Wenger haters are still flogging a dead horse, Paul Easter’s injury had nothing to do with the manager, its one of those things that happens and you cannot plan for. Wenger has brought Chambers Holding and Beilic its not as if we haven’t got anybody.

Wenger will buy if he is not happy with who we have, and seeing how the window is still open there is still time if he feels he needs a player. We are not short of players we only need two to play and we have four.

Blame Wenger when he does not get us in the top positions, but to blame him for every single thing, i think you should look at yourselves.
