Draxler ‘wants to join Arsenal’ after demanding move [Sky Sports]

By on August 3, 2016

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Julian Draxler wants to join Arsenal after confirming that he’s told Woflsburg he wants to leave the club this summer.

Draxler hit the headlines last night after Bild published an interview with the attacker where he sensationally claimed that he told Wolfsburg three weeks ago that he wants to leave and join a ‘top international club’.

The attacker told Bild:

‘I have expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach knows for more than three weeks.

‘Two days after the semi-final at the European Championships I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want – which is to leave the club.

‘I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. Both from Hecking, as well as Allofs.

‘It was always clear between all parties that I would like to go to a top international club if the opportunity arises. It was discussed that we speak rationally with one another, if other clubs show interest.’ [source: Daily Mail]

The player never mentioned any specific team but Arsenal and Juventus were immediately linked with the player with the Mirror suggesting we were leading the race for his signature along with the Serie A champions.

However, Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol has taken to Twitter to claim that he’s been informed that Draxler wants to join Arsenal and he did the Bild interview to try and push through the move.

He Tweeted:

Julian Draxler due back training with Wolfsburg today. Told he wants to join Arsenal. Gave interview to Bild to try & force through move

Draxler has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and we know Arsene Wenger is a huge fan so it wouldn’t come as a surprise if we were making a real effort to sign the attacker.

Obviously our priority should be to sign a top class striker but with the lack of options around this summer, perhaps Wenger is tempted to sign a player he really wants like Draxler?

I seem to remember there were suggestions when we were previously linked with the German international that Arsene was considering converting him in to a striker, so maybe that’s the bosses masterplan this summer?

Who knows. All I do know is that Draxler is a sensational talent and I’d love to see him join Arsenal. In an ideal world, we’d be looking to sign him AND someone like Lacazette, but I think we’d have to see Theo Walcott sold in order to fund/make room for Draxler.

Walcott out, Draxler, Lacazette and Mustafi in? We’d certainly be pushing for the title if we pulled that off!
