Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has offered a positive injury update on defenders Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Hull City.

Koscielny was forced off at half-time during our dramatic 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Sunday after suffering a dead leg while attempting to tackle N’Golo Kante just before the break.

The boss has now revealed that the French international is ‘doing well’ and will have a test at training today, but Arsene says the situation ‘looks positive’ so Koscielny should have a decent chance of being available to face Hull.

Gabriel missed the Leicester game after suffering a hamstring injury against Bournemouth and he flew back to Brazil to undergo treatment with his former club Victoria this week with widespread reports suggesting he’s facing up to a month on the sidelines.

However, Arsene appears to have dismissed that idea after confirming that although Gabriel is out of Saturday’s FA Cup game, the boss says he’s already back running outside so it doesn’t sound like he’ll be out for any extended period of time.

Wenger told Arsenal.com:

on Laurent Koscielny…
Koscielny is doing well. He has a test this morning and he looks positive.

on Gabriel…
He is running outside. He is out for Saturday.

We’ll have to wait for further updates on Gabriel over the coming days but if he’s already running outside, I fail to see how he’ll be out for anything longer than 7-10 days at most. He’ll probably miss the Barca game but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was available to face Man Utd next weekend.

It’s a relief to hear that Koscielny’s problem isn’t serious but whether we should start him against Hull is another question as we’ve got Barcelona coming up next Tuesday and with Gabriel a doubt, I think it would be prudent to give Kos a rest on Saturday.

Where are our reserve and academy back four. They should be brought in to face Hull. We need first team backline rested for Barca and Man Utd.
