Arsenal To Make SHOCK Move For €35m Hitman – Report

By on January 31, 2015

Some rather surprising transfer news circulating Gooners with reports suggesting that Arsenal are set to move for Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic during the final stages of the transfer window.

Mandzukic only moved to Atletico last summer from Bayern Munich but the arrival of Fernando Torres this month has seen the striker fall down the pecking order.

Apparently the Croatian hitman isn’t too impressed and this has led to speculation suggesting he could be offloaded before Monday nights winter window deadline.

Manchester City are understood to be keen, despite signing Wilfried Bony, and are reportedly prepared to spend €35m (£26m) on the 28-year-old.

However, the Express claim that Arsenal are ready to battle City for his signature with Arsene Wenger apparently ready to renew his interest in Mandzukic having been linked back in the summer.

To me, this sounds highly unlikely to say the least. Arsene has said many times he’s happy with his attacking options and we sent Joel Campbell out on loan because we couldn’t give him game-time – so why would be spend £26m on another striker?

I would perhaps understand if Madnzukic was a versatile attacker who could play anywhere across the front three positions, but he’s not. He’s a centre-forward in the same mold as Giroud, so I really don’t see this as anything other than idle paper talk.

I said it last week….I think we’re done in the window. Bielik and Gabriel will be our only two additions this my IMO.
