Father Confirms Player Will ‘Only Join Arsenal’ To Work Under Wenger
The father of Nabil Fekir has claimed that the midfielder will only leave Lyon in order to join Arsenal so he can progress his career under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger.
Fekir has been in excellent form for Lyon this season and it’s led to speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal and Man City reportedly keen.
However, the midfielders father, Mohamed, has now claimed that the 21-year-old has no interest in sitting on City’s bench and will only leave Lyon to join Arsenal so he can work with Arsene Wenger.
“Nabil would like to finish first or second and play Champions League football with Lyon,” Mohamed Fekir said.
“If he leaves, it will be for Arsenal. It is the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger. He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench.”
Arsene is on the look-out for midfield reinforcements with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Abou Diaby all on the sidelines through injury and Fekir is one of a number of targets we’re looking at.
He’s clearly got his head screwed on as he’d rather snub a big-money move to City and join Arsenal where he’s actually got a chance of forging a career, rather than rotting on the bench week-in, week-out.
However, that’s not to say that Wenger is going to follow through and make his interest formal, as there’s a good chance the boss will probably end up going for another more established target this winter.
