Midfielder: ‘I Want To Move, There Has Been Contact From Arsenal’
Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote has admitted he wants to leave St James’ Park and revealed that Arsenal have made contact about his services.
The Ivory Coast international has been at Newcastle since joining the club in 2010 but it seems he’s now ready for a new challenge as the 28-year-old has expressed his desire to secure a move away from the club as early as January.
It appears a move to Arsenal could be a possibility as Tiote has claimed that we have made contact about his availability – although he doesn’t say how recent our interest was.
A Russian club are also understood to be keen but the midfielder opened the door to a move to the Emirates by confirming he’d rather remain in the Premier League.
Tiote told reporters:
‘I want to leave. I’ve spent four years with Newcastle. I think I have reached a stage where it’s maybe time to look elsewhere for a new challenge.
‘I will focus on upcoming games and let’s see what happens between now and December.
‘It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia. I’d prefer to stay in England.’
Tiote was regarded as one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League a couple of years ago and was strongly linked with all the top clubs, including Arsenal.
However, a spate of injuries over the past 24 months have affected his form and he’s not the player he once was. I’d personally steer clear as there are much better options out there, but obviously the decision is down to Arsene Wenger.
