Arsenal ‘Have Made €63.5m Striker Bid’ – Reports In Spain
According to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal have made a €63.5m bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani which should be enough to persuade the French outfit to sell.
Cavani had been tipped to leave PSG this summer after complaining about having to play out on the wing and the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd were all linked with a move at one point or another.
The striker appeared to commit his future to the Parc des Princes earlier this month after stating that he was now content at the club following talks with boss Laurent Blanc.
However, that doesn’t appear to have damped our interest in the Uruguayan as following days of rumours, AS claim today we have now tabled a €63.5m (£51m) offer.
The Spanish newspaper then state that the bid will be accepted by PSG – citing the Metro as their source – as the French champions want to raise funds to help finance their move for Angel Di Maria.
It’s not clear whether AS are using the Metro as their source for the entire story, or just that they expect PSG to sell, but either way I have some serious doubts over the validity of the report.
We’ve already spent big money on Alexis Sanchez and Arsene has not only put on record that he plans to eventually use the Chilean through the middle, while the boss has also confirmed that he’s now only in the market for a defensive-minded player.
Therefore, even though Arsene is a huge fan of Cavani, there is very little chance he’d be looking to spend over £50m on another striker right now.
The priority is to bring in a defensive midfielder who can also play at centre-back, so as much as we’d all love to believe that Cavani could be heading to the Emirates this summer, I wouldn’t be rushing out to get his name printed on your shirt just yet.
