Arsenal Star Hopes To Be “Back Running In A Few Weeks”

By on April 28, 2014

Theo Walcott is hoping to start running again in a ‘few weeks’ and aims to be back playing for the Arsenal first team during the early stages of next season.

Theo was ruled out for at least six months when he ruptured the cruciate ligament in his knee during the closing minutes of our 2-0 FA Cup win over Tottenham back in January – when he famously did his ‘2-0’ hand gesture to the travelling fans.

Sadly for Arsenal and England, the injury has seen Walcott miss the entire second half of the season and he’s set to miss the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer.

The 25-year-old has been speaking to Arsenal.com and gave the latest on his recovery, confirming that his rehabilitation is going according to plan and once again ruled out any chance of him rushing himself back to make the plane to Rio.

He’s currently working on muscle strengthening and hopes to start running in a few weeks time, with the ultimate aim of working hard throughout the summer to return to action for the early part of next season.

“I’m not pushing myself to be fit for the World Cup or anything like that. I want to be back quickly of course, but safely too.” Theo told Arsenal.com

“I want to try and be back for the early part of next season. That’s the goal so there will be a lot of hard work throughout the summer and during the World Cup.”

“It’s nearly been four months now and my recovery has gone on track so far,”

“At the moment, I’m working on muscle strength and building muscle in my quad. I’ve got a lot of the flexion back and I’m always working on extension.

“A lot of the days are very similar but the four months have gone really quickly. I don’t see any point in being down in the dumps about the injury because it’s already happened and there are a lot of people with worse problems in the world.

“I’ll just get on with my work – I’m first in and last out on most days. I see the consultant soon too and hopefully he’ll give me the thumbs-up to push on even more. I’d love to be running in a few weeks.”

Some had hoped when the injury initially occurred that Walcott might make it back in time to take part in pre-season training in July, but that appears to have been ruled out now with the player suggesting he won’t be back with the first team until into next season.

I said at the time that Theo’s injury would cost us the title and along with the loss of Aaron Ramsey, it’s turned out to be the case. Nobody could have predicted Rambo would have been out for three months with a routine thigh injury, but Theo being out for the second half of the campaign was always going to be a major blow.

We have sorely missed his pace in recent months as well as the vital goals and assists he brings to the team, so it will be a huge boost to have him back in the side and I think we’ll really start to see the best of Mesut Ozil once he has a runner like Theo in the team.
