RATINGS: My Ratings From Arsenal’s Shocking 1-0 Loss To Stoke

By on March 1, 2014

What an awful game. We were dragged down to Stoke’s despicable level and just couldn’t get going. The referee was woeful, missing at least two disgusting stamps from Whelan and Adam on Giroud, the penalty was fortunate and the hosts did well at disrupting our game, but there’s really no excuse for how poor we were going forward.

Here are my ratings:

Szczesny  – 7/10 – Good save from a powerful Whelan effort at the end of first half and made another decent stop to deny Crouch in the second half. Sent the wrong way for the pen.

Sagna – 7/10 – Probably our best attacking outlet down the right and he sent in a couple of dangerous crosses. Rarely troubled at the back.

Mertesacker  – 7/10 – Calm as ever at the back and made a couple of excellent tackles to deny Stoke on the break. Shackled Crouch well.

Koscielny – 6.5/10 – Was unfortunate to give the penalty away as we’ve certainly seen plenty get away with similar offences, but when your arm’s in the air like that you are asking for trouble.

Gibbs – 6.5/10 – Tried to get forward on occasion but final ball largely let him down.

Arteta – 7.5/10 – One of our better players. Battled well in midfield against the filthy/dirty/over-physical Whelan and Adam.

Wilshere – 6.5/10 – Had a frustrating game. Was picked out for some rough treatment, particularly in the first half, but just couldn’t get things going. This is why I thought he should have been left out for Flamini.

Rosicky – 6.5/10 – Worked hard as ever but another who just couldn’t find his flow. Booked for a poor challenge.

Cazorla – 6.5/10 – Showed some good feet early on but curled over, then should have played Podolski in but instead hit a weak shot straight at Begovic towards the end of the first half.

Podolski – 6/10 – Wasted a good chance to test the keeper midway through the first half but blasted wide. Did little else other than a few simple passes.

Giroud – 6/10 – Was clearly targetted by the Stoke backline who were coming through him all afternoon while Whelan and Adam also left their mark on him with disgraceful stamps. While the referee gave him little protection, Giroud simply couldn’t handle the rough stuff. His touch was also off and offered little in attack.

Subs:

The Ox -7.5/10 – Our best player when he came on. Finally he offered us some pace and was willing to run behind, which led to two great opportunities late on. Should have started.

Ozil – 6/10 – Went close with a left-footed strike.

Sanogo – 6/10 – Wasted a golden chance to make himself a hero with a late equaliser when he blazed over from 8 yards while unmarked.

So we’re now four points off Chelsea with a nightmare run of fixtures coming up. We’re going to have to win at Stamford Bridge and beat City at home to have a chance of the title you feel.

    Shalom.
Iam learning how not to trust Arsenal
They lost what looked like the easiest month’s fixture.
    God help Arsenal.

    GAME OVER!

    NO MORE EXCUSES.
THE TEAM HAD A GOOD REST,
    YET THEY PLAY WORSE.
EVERY TIME THE PLAYERS MAKE BIG HEADED TWEETS, COMMENTS BEFORE GAMES,
THEY COME OUT LOOKING LIKE MUGS..
I WISH THEY WOULD STOP THAT.

blaming the ref is far too convenient. We have had a bad day at the office 5 times of our last 7 so i think that indicates an issue, We also have the worst goal difference of the top 4 teams, where we will soon be 4th place once city play their game in hand. We don’t score goals consistently and we don’t have many guys in the team you can rely on to score. last week aside its a struggle because we don’t play at any tempo. When Walcott went down so too did our pace and ability to get in behind the opposition. Giroud fans might love him for his pretty hair, but he’s average infront of goal and has no ability to create opportunities for himself or space plus he’s often isolated as he’s not getting too many runs in the box to support him so we often play up to the 18yrd line and pass sideways. Tactically when we face a team who gives us a go and stays organised basically we can’t score. Our createive outputs have to play deep to retrieve the ball so they don’t get in good positions and we have no pace. So Giroud cuts a lonely figure.
The January windows failings are showing, Sanogo’s effort in front of goal was a joke for a player who isn’t ready for this level of competition yet. I don’t see how we win the league now, whereas i believed we could do it for so long but last weeks game looks like an anomoly the amount of poor performances we’ve had sinse christmas.
The Ox and Falamini need to be starting every week because Flam actually marshalls the midfield and Ox has the abiity to get in behind where noonse else does.
Very disgusting day all round, Adam should have been sent off for a sickeing stamp, and watching our incompetent performance was equally sickening.

I think wenger’s is too stubborn n makes obvious mistakes too often.he does not want to buy good players, match winners like yohan cabaye, prefer playing old attacking arteta in a defensive midfield position in a strong league like epl.also refused to buy a quality striker for about 5years now and prefer dat lazy giroud when even players like remy were there.how can a club like arsenal start a whole season with one lazy striker?chelsea, man u,liverpool and man city have an atleast two quality strikers if not more than.he has been fooling the fans for years now n needs to leave.this thing keeps repeating itself, rwmember cesc fab? Played good football for years with no trophy apart from the 2005 FA cup,got tired n left.instead of supporting USMANOV totakeover,he supported a foolish bussiness man who knows nothing about football and Arsenal fc just because he wants to be in control.its a pity

Its time for wenger to leave because Giroud is not aplayer at all. As far as arsenal fc is concern Giroud and sanogo has nothing to offer the club, now tell me how can u win trophy with this kind of lazy player instate of buying quality players u are selling the few once u have now sagna is leaving and there is no hope for any replacement, quality player don’t want to play for arsenal any longer they r rejecting our offer because they knew wenger is not a serious manager shame to wenger.
