Ozil: “It Was Emotional, I Had Goosebumps”

By on October 21, 2013

Arsenal are flying high at the minute and our record summer signing has certainly contributed to our excellent start to the season.

Mesut Ozil scored two on Saturday as we beat Norwich City 4-1 to move two points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and during and after the game the Emirates faithful could be heard signing his name to the tune of ‘Walking in a Bergkamp wonderland’. [Obviously replacing ‘Bergkamp’ with ‘Ozil’]

It seems it had a profound effort on the German super star, with Ozil telling Arsenal.com today that it was an emotional experience and he had goosebumps when he first heard the crown signing his name:

“It was an emotional experience for me,” he said. “I had goosebumps when I heard! I’m so thankful to the fans, who have supported both myself and the whole team.

“We’re showing our thanks with our good performances on the pitch. I hope that they can continue to get behind us as they have been and I can guarantee that we will continue to play attractive football.”

It must make a nice change for a player like Ozil, who had to put up with a jeering Real Madrid crowd every week, to come to a club where he’s truly appreciated and fans will sing his name win, lose or draw.

Ozil also praised Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Jack Wilshere for THAT goal on Saturday, saying it was like the trio were playing PlayStation! He continued:

“I’ve got to praise the three players involved for the first goal,” he told Arsenal Player. “It was real ‘tiki taka’ – almost like they were playing PlayStation! It was an unbelievable goal.

Despite his superb start to life in north London, the 24-year-old says he can still improve further and confirmed that the players will continue to fight for each other on the pitch – which he feels is an important ingredient to our recent success.

“I know that I can still improve but I’m happy with my display and the performance of the team. Aaron Ramsey showed that any player who comes on will do his best for the team and will get involved in tackles and attacks immediately.

“That’s why we’ve been in such good form. I’m really proud of the team. We’re taking what the manager wants us to take into games and are making strides. Now we’ve got another three points and can be pleased with that.

“[Confidence] is really high. We know what we can do but we won’t get carried away. It’s still very early but we know how much potential we have in the team. We just enjoy playing and it shows on the pitch. We fight for each other and we are always there for one another. That’s why we’ve been so successful.”

An excellent interview from Ozil there and you can tell he’s a true pro, as well as fabulous footballer. I think he’s right, there is even more to come from him and that’s a scary thought.

I was part of the crowd singing his song and it felt so good to be singing this song again to a deserving player. After Berkamp, if any players deserved this song , it’s Ozil. It just felt right singing this song for him.

“Walking in an Ozil wonderland” I think that song was made for him dude. He’s the wizard of OZ himself, isn’t he?
