Report: Arsenal Working On £40m Deal To Sign Schalke Startlet

By on August 31, 2013

Arsenal are frantically trying to push through a deal for Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler with Ivan Gazidis willing to pay £40m for the teenager, according to reports today.

As we enter the final few days of the transfer window, ‘panic mode’ is in full swing and it seems the latest target is 19-year-old German sensation Draxler.

We’ve heard a lot about this kid and we’ve been linked with him a few times in the past, but the Mirror claim that we’ve now opened formal talks with Schalke with Ivan Gazidis said to have been working hard on Thursday and Friday to try and get a deal done for the attacking midfielder.

The board are willing to pay £40m, but the newspaper says that Arsene Wenger has ‘major reservations’ about paying that amount. What a shocker, eh?! Wenger refusing to pay the going rate? Never!

Sure, £40m is silly money for what will be raw potential but that’s the market we’re working in and even £40m might not be enough as Schalke are understood to be demanding in the region of £60m.

While a deal remains unlikely – if you believe the German journalists on Twitter – interestingly, Schalke signed Kevin Prince-Boateng from AC Milan on Friday so have a ready-made replacement for Draxler should they sell.

I’m not convinced a 19-year-old is exactly what we need right now. We need experienced players who are ready to come straight in and make an immediate impact on the first team, but we’re so desperate for new signings I’ll be delighted if we can get this deal done.

I’m still optimistic that we’ll bring in at least 2 or 3 players, but time is running out and we’re playing a dangerous game that could backfire and kill our season before it’s even really begun.

Draxler is very good, some would argue he already better than Di Maria at 19, he has two feet and has a wicked shot better than Toni kroos and about as fast as The Ox. And still has loads of potential. Not as good of a dribble or creative as Gotze, but can still beat a player and make pass with either feet.

What is this crap I’m reading? Prop have lost their grip of reality if they’re actually talking about 40 million for a 19 year old who I’ve never even heard of. I’m not saying he isn’t any good or that he won’t be but let’s get a grip here, there are few players out there worth 40 million pounds and this kid is certainly isn’t one of them. Im in total agreement we need to sign 2 or 3 players but would be embarrassed if we spent 40mil on Draxxler, however cool his name is.

Let’s not panic here just because the Tiny Tots are blowing there load prematurely. We last the distance and have a stronger starting 11 than them. Have faith I sense we’ll smash them on the weekend. Seriously gunners stay calm!

AI like you said, you’ve never of him (German international), so how will you know how much he’s worth? Right now Germany have the BEST young talent coming through than any other country. This is the world we live in, if Lamela is worth £30m, Draxler is worth £40m. You also have to consider how many years you can get out of this player, how much is the potential resale value in the future or what the value of the player will be worth in the future. These players are more than footballers they are assets.

Yeah fair enough, but either way it’s not gonna happen as long as Wenger is in charge;.and you know what? I’m glad that’s the case. I don’t care who Spuds bought for the 30mil as they’ll all end up flops most likely. Really can’t believe some gunners have been jealous of Spurs this year because they could spend all they want they won’t finish above us anyway!

Haven’t we got enough of wc kids except Wenger.
If the gunners lose to Spurs and are unable to challenge for the epl,the fm must repeat must be shown the exit.
Believe me he has lost the plot. The defence when exposed to the fast attacks of the top 3 and Spurs could wilt.
